what’s best? 48 v dc@4amps/12volts@16amps thru controller to lead acid with alt. on wind power?
reason i was asking this question is that I’m experimenting with wind alternators. one is 12 volt for hi-wind conditions/hi-amp and 2each 48 volt low wind with different blade lengths to determine which works better. 48 volt low wind is in operation with 60″ dia. 6 blades(carbon fiber) thru charge controller 1500 watts/50amp/with diversion load of 50 amps, into 935 amphr lead acid battery. I have a 12 volt/hi-amp alt but cogs on rotation/hi-wind.Which would have a 3 blade(lots heavier) fiberglass but 84″ dia.?? The 48 volt non-cogging alt. that’s running need 3 more 6 blade wind alts. to fully charge the battery(4 total). I’m putting up the 12 volt hi- amp wind gen as soon as cent. Il. weather permits. these will be in same area for better results but curious if any one has gone thru this and came up with good results? Also building verticle/ helix blade/ turbine mounted on car front rotor/hub spindle with 3′ x 4′ size using gearing to alt. no numbers just common sense stuff!!
Well, the question got a lot more complicated one I read the whole thing.
For the first part, 48V@4V vs. 12V@16A, if all else were equal, the higher voltage / lower current would be better due to lower I/R losses in the wiring. controller etc.. But for the entire question I don’t know, there are a lot af variables there.
