How To Save Electricity

how to save electricity
how much electricity do candles need to generate light?

I’m going to buy some candles to Save Electricity and I wanted to know how much electricity they use compared to GE lightbulbs.

it depends on which size candle you get

a taper candle will be much lower in electricity usage than a 16 inch pillar candle

i also believe the scented yankee candles will be a little higher in usage because they also have to disperse smelly things…

so it just all depends on what kind you get

either way though they are much lower in electricity usage than regular bulbs and its well worth a try to save money on your utility bill

Excerpt: The Bloom Energy Server is a solid oxide fuel cell made by Bloom Energy, of Sunnyvale, California, that uses liquid or gaseous hydrocarbons (such as gasoline, diesel or propane produced from fossil or bio sources) to generate electricity on the site where it will be used; Bloom Energy representatives assert that it is at least as efficient as a traditional large-scale coal power station. According to the company, a single cell (one 100mm × 100mm metal alloy plate between two ceramic layers) generates 25 watts. The Bloom Energy Server uses thin white ceramic plates (100mm × 100mm) which are made from sintered modified zirconia (an oxide derived from common beach sand). Each ceramic plate is coated with a green Nickel oxide -based ink on one side (anode) and another black (probably Lanthanum strontium manganite) ink on the other side (cathode). According to the San Jose Mercury News, “Bloom’s secret technology apparently lies in the proprietary green ink that acts as the anode and the black ink that acts as the cathode—” but in fact these materials are widely known in the field of solid oxide fuel cells. Wired reports that the secret ingredient may be yttria-stabilized zirconia based upon a 2006 patent filing (7,572,530) that was granted to Bloom in 2009; but this material is also one of the most common electrolyte materials in the field. To save money, the Bloom Energy Server uses inexpensive metal alloy plates for electric conductance between the two ceramic fast ion conductor plates. In lower temperature fuel cells, platinum is required at the cathode. According to the board of Bloom Energy, the technology works. A Guardian report on the story added, “But industry watchers say they remain unsure exactly how it works.” Bloom Energy is the … More:

Let's Get Rich To Save Energy

Let’s Get Rich To Save Energy

$67.99

This paper studies the relationship between electricity consumption per person and income (measured as GDP per capita in Current US$ and GNI per capita in PPP). It follows the latest methodology researched in the literature and tests for distribution equality, correlation, outlier detection, fixed effects and the addition of new variables. An inverted U-relationship could be found for GNI per capita in all the tests, but not for GDP per capita in all specifications. Data was subject to outlier detection and adjustments for fixed effects for both cross-section and period. Furthermore alternative specifications were analyzed, illustrating how the inverted U- relationship can be explained with the addition of GNI per capita into the general model up to the fourth power without losing its shape, showing a turning point in electricity consumption at a level of $38,630, with a 95% confidence interval of ±$123.

Paris under Water: How the City of Light Survived the Great Flood Of 1910

Paris under Water: How the City of Light Survived the Great Flood Of 1910

$27

In the winter of 1910, the river that brought life to Paris—the Seine—became a force of destruction in a matter of hours.  Torrential rainfall saturated the soil, and faulty engineering created conditions that soon drowned Parisian streets, homes, businesses, and museums, thrusting the City of Light into a battle with the elements. Given the Parisians’ history of deep-seated social, religious, and political strife, many worried that they wouldn’t be able to collaborate to confront the crisis. Yet while the sewers, Métro, and electricity failed around them, Parisians of all backgrounds rallied to save the city and one another. Improvising techniques to keep Paris functioning and braving the dangers of collapsing infrastructure and looters, leaders and residents alike answered the call to action. In breathtaking detail, Jeffrey Jackson captures here for the first time the epic story of the great flood. As the waters rise, so does the tension, but ultimately, the Parisians’ love of their city leads them to triumph over nature against all odds.
